20 years ago - in November of 1988 - an all-female rock n roll band from Melbourne Australia (featuring Sherry Rich and Anne McCue) stepped onto the tiny stage at a pub in North Melbourne and performed their debut show. They were called Girl Monstar - and for nearly two decades, the band - and indeed the individual members - have played - and continue to play a large part of my brother's life - (he once ran their fan club and runs girlmonstar.com). So to celebrate the 20th anniversary of on ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website

BTP 9 - The Bombers - Live at Parramatta HMV 1990 (STATUS QUO / ANGELS)With a pedigree that boasted Alan Lancaster from Status Quo and John Brewster from The Angels, success for The Bombers seemed assured. They had great songs in the Aussie hard rock / boogie tradition, a tremendous front man in vocalist Tyrone Coates (who although plucked from obscurity in Perth, had won WA s best male vocalist two years running in the mid 1980s), and a solid blue collar attitude that was a throwback to the halcyon days of Oz pub rock. (Angels, Rose Tattoo, Cold Chisel etc). ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website
BTP 10 - DUBROVNIKS - LIVE AT THE WIRELESSI was a massive fan of the Dubrovniks, having seen them a stack of times around the pubs of Sydney some 20 years ago now. Their 1990 album Audio Sonic Love Affair was power packed, guitar fuelled rock n roll. With a pedigree that boated ex-members of the Scientists, Headstones, Girlies, and Hoodoo Gurus, and a guy on vocals who was simply dynamic, the formula was ripe for success. The Dubrovniks as a band though, never reached their potential. An inner city super group who had to be conte ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website
Buried Treasure Podcast 11 - Peter Wells Live At The Wireless 1992I was fortunate to see Pete dozens of times in the late 1980's and early 90's, and those memories will live with me. Pete was an original, the pioneer of the bad bay tatooed rock n roll outlaw that was shamelessly ripped off by Guns n Roses and other Sunset Strip wannabe posers in the late 80's. I saw him play with Mick Cocks in the band Heart Attack in the late 80's, I saw him play with my brother at the Espy in St. Kilda in 1990 (with Warwick Fraser on drums). I saw him do a residency at ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website

In this special edition podcast, I pay tribute to the memory of Rhoads and endeavour to define the characteristics that made his playing so unique, and his legacy enduring. Over two hours, I examine Rhoad's ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website
