May 24, 2006 - Brooklyn Bridge Opens!On May 24, 1883 President Chester Arthur and Governor Grover Clevland officially opened the Brooklyn Bridge before more than 14,000 spectators! The bridge crosses the East River, and connects Brooklyn with Lower Manhattan. While the engineering was a grand accomplishment, the design was also well noted.
